Day 1: Morning transfer
from Nairobi, arriving at Mountain Rock Lodge for lunch. Then drive
to the Park gate. From here, hike through montane forest, bamboo
and rosewood up to the OldMoses Hut, gaining an elevation range
of 700m in 3-4 hours. Dinner and Overnight at OldMoses Hut (3300m)
Day 2: A long and rather
tiring day leading to the base of the high peaks. Today's trek is
largely through the moorlands and the Mackinder Valley, with good
views of the main peaks and a brief stopover for picnic lunch. Total
walking time is approx. 7 hours gaining 900m in altitude. Dinner
and Overnight at Shipton's Hut (4200m)
Day 3: Pre-dawn attempt
of the summit starts at 0300hrs, taking 3-4 hours to reach Pt. Lenana
4985m (the hikers summit) in time to watch the sunrise. On a clear
day you can see the snow capped summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro miles
away to the south. Descend back to shipton's camp for breakfast
then walk further down to the Sirimon park gate to catch our vehicle
for transfer back to the base lodge for a hot shower and lunch.
Then back to Nairobi arriving there by 1700 hrs.

4 DAYS SIRIMON
- NARO MORU CROSSOVER.
This is the most common traverse on Mt. Kenya. Unless preferred,
camping is not necessary as accommodation is available in a lodge
and mountain huts throughout the trip. Although the trip offers
reasonably good chances of reaching the summit, those who may not
manage the challenge can cross over via the easier summit circuit
trail and join up with other hikers at the Mackinder's Camp or consider
adding on a day at Shipton's 4200m to acclimatize better ahead of
the summit.

Day 4: Leaving early, you
gradually descend for 4-5 hours through the moorlands and the lower
vertical bog up to the Met Station, from where you walk down on
a wide dirt road leading to the Naromoru Park gate (2600m) where
you meet our vehicle. You are then transferred back to Mountain
Rock Lodge for a hot shower and lunch then back to Nairobi

5 DAYS UP
& DOWN SIRIMON ROUTE.
A more gradual trek to the summit, traversing
areas of rich forest cover before emerging into the sprawling moorlands.
This hike is usually rated as the easiest among the short trips
and is quite popular with persons attempting to reach an altitude
exceeding 4000m for the first time. It is a good choice for large
trekking groups as it follows the same trail up and down, making
it convenient for those who are unable to reach the summit to stay
behind at lower camps to wait for the rest of the group to complete
the trip then descend together. Unless preferred, camping is not
necessary as accommodation is available in a lodge and mountain
huts throughout the trip.

6 DAYS CHOGORIA
- SIRIMON TRAVERSE.
Expect a challenging start. The ascend to the base of the high peaks
is steady and longer hence a real test on individual fitness. Descent
through Sirimon is more or less gradual and at a comfortable pace.
Day 1: Depart from Nairobi
at 0800hrs, driving through agricultural country up to Chogoria.
Leave the tarmac and attempt the drive on the dirt road through
Chogoria forest up to the Chogoria Park gate. The whole journey
takes 5-10 hours depending on the prevailing weather conditions
in Chogoria. Dinner and overnight Meru Mount Kenya Lodge (3000m)
Day 2: Leaving early, you
trek on a wide track through the forest, with occasional sightings
of elephant, bushbuck, buffalo and impala. Divert from the main
track and trek to the base of the relatively Mugi hill (3500m).
For better acclimatization, climb the hill then descend and walk
to our camp beside the Nithi River for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Cross the Nithi River
to reach the moorlands from where you can enjoy good views of the
picturesque Gorges Valley, the Temple, lakes, mushroom rocks, billiards
table and the high peaks. Hike for 4-5 hours to Mintos campsite,
picnic, dinner and overnight at Minto's (4300m)
Day 4: Predawn attempt of
the summit starts at 0300hrs and you hike for about three hours
up to Point Lenana (4985m), the hikers summit, arriving there in
time to watch the African sunrise. Descend to Shipton's camp for
breakfast and a whole day's rest. Dinner and overnight at Shipton's
camp (4200m)
Day 5: After breakfast,
begin a 5-6 hour descent to Sirimon Park gate (2600m). The descent
is gentle and it offers ample time to enjoy fascinating scenery
which includes the moorlands and forests.Dinner and overnight at
Mountain Rock Lodge (1950m)
Day 6: Have breakfast then
return to Nairobi.

Highly recommended for both experienced and inexperienced high altitude
trekkers as it offers maximum chances of acclimatisation, virtually
guaranteeing successful ascent to the summit. From Shipton's, you
skirt the high peaks to the east, bypassing Kami and Two-tarn huts
as you marvel at the splendid view of the rocky towers, tarns and
suspended glaciers of the west face of Batian peak to attempt the
summit from Mackinders camp in the Teleki valley and eventually
descending through the Sirimon.

but a good test on individual endurance on the mountain as you cover
a 900m. ascent in 6-7 hours. The moorland walk takes you across
hills and valleys in the sprawling moorlands where you see several
unique and interesting plants and animals including the Giant groundsels
and lobelias and the mountain hyrax.Dinner and overnight at Shiptons
Camp (4200m)
Day 4: Departing at 0800hrs
ascend the Hausberg col (4700m) then descend steeply to Hausberg
valley and Oblong tarns before making a further steep ascent, crossing
huge boulders via Two Tarn on the way to Mackinder's camp (4,300m)
which is located along the Naromoru route within the Teleki Valley.

Day 5: Leaving the camp
at 0300hrs you hike up the steep scree slopes and glacier to Point
Lenana (4985m), the hikers summit. It is planned that you arrive
in time to witness the African Sun rising over the equator,reflect
its golden glow on the Majestic peaks of Batian and Nelion. Later
descend to Shipton's camp (4200m) for breakfast then relax for the
rest of the day. Dinner and overnight at Shipton's Camp (4200m)
Day 6: Have early breakfast
before your descend to Sirimon roadhead (2600m) in 4-5 hours, from
where you connect the vehicle for transfer back to Mountain Rock
Lodge for a hot shower and lunch and relax for the rest of the afternoon.

Day 4: Emerging from Likii
valley, climb and pass over a ridge to enter on a steep descent
into the picturesque Mackinder Valley where you join to the normal
route from the Old Moses camp. You arrive at Shiptons camp for hot

(4200m)
Day 5: Leave the camp at
0300hrs and hike up the steep scree slopes and across rocks up to
Point Lenana (4985m), the hikersí summit, gaining 785m in
altitude in 3-4 hours. Later descend back to Shipton's camp for

7 DAYS SIRIMON-CHOGORIA CROSSOVER.
This trek uses the gentlest ascent trail on the mountain, our own
huts and an additional acclimatization day at Shiptons Camp (4,200m).
It allows you to explore the contrasting, picturesque and spectacular
scenery of Mt. Kenya. From the lower forest zone we cross through
the bamboo and heather zones to reach the moorlands, walk through
the Mackinder Valley enjoying its beautiful scenery and vegetation
of giant groundsel and lobelias until we arrive at the Shipton's
camp. On this trek you combine use of huts with camping. It also
includes one night at our Base Lodge ahead of the trek during which
you participate in exhilarating fitness activities that help you
acclimatize better.
Day 1: Transfer from Nairobi
to the slopes of Mount Kenya for lunch. In the afternoon is a 3-4
hours nature walk through the forest reserve to Mau Mau caves, the
former base for Kenya's freedom fighters. As you hike you learn
about plants, birds and animals found in the forest from your escort
naturalist guide. A traditional dance performance can also be arranged

Day 2: Vehicle transfer
to the mountain soon after breakfast together with the guide and
porters. The drive to Sirimon Park gate (2600m) takes less than
2 hours. En route to the mountain you could have a brief stopover

and lunch, you begin a 3-4 hour hike through montane forest, bamboo,
rosewood and heather zones to Old Moses camp (3300m). The forest
and bamboo are home to hundreds of buffaloes, elephants, bushbucks

Day 3: After an early breakfast
at 0700hrs, commence a 6-7 hours trek through the sprawling moorlands

for fascinating views of unique moorland plants and scenery but
is also a test on your individual endurance. You gain good acclimatization
as you cover an altitude range of 900m. Lunch stop is at a vantage
point on the Mackinder valley. Dinner and overnight at Shipton's
Camp (4200m)
Day 4: Acclimatizing day
at Shipton's. Take a walk to the peak area and return to the Shipton's
hut for hot lunch. Dinner and overnight at the camp.
Day 5: Start predawn summit
attempt at 0300 hrs, hiking for three hours up to Pt. Lenana (4,985m),
the hikers summit, arriving there in time to see the African sunrise.
From Pt. Lenana you have good views of Pt. Nelion (5188m), Pt. Batian
(5199m) and other surrounding peaks, and on a clear day the summit
of Mt. Kilimanjaro can be seen protruding from the sky over 340km
to the south. >From the summit descend to Mintos/Hall tarn campsite
(4,300m) for breakfast then relax for the rest of the day. Interested
persons can explore the Gorge's valley. Dinner and overnight at
Mintos campsite
Day 6: After breakfast,
begin a 5-6 hour descent to Meru Mount Kenya cabins situated at
the Chogoria Park gate (3,000m). The descent is gentle and it offers
ample time to enjoy the gorgeous landmarks on the lower gorges valley
including Vivienne falls, Nithi falls, mushroom rocks and an array
of interesting mountain plants. Today you have a chance to clean
up and relax at the Meru Mt. Kenya Lodge. Dinner and overnight at
the lodge.
Day 7: After breakfast gradually
descend through the Chogoria Forest to meet up with our vehicle
for the return journey to Nairobi arriving by1700hrs. Picnic lunch
is served en route.
